We chose our destination & couldn’t wait to experience a new country with this time around – 2 x Kids!
When choosing our flights we initially wanted comfort for the kids. We wanted space, in flight entertainment, food, checked in luggage & a sleeping bassinet for the baby. Its a 6hour flight if direct from Sydney – Bali
We flew Virgin for these reasons & we were extremely dissapointed . . . . .
The only thing our flight delivered was the check in luggage & 1x tiny meal otherwise any other food was to be purchased.
We were on one of their smallest aircrafts that was only 2 rows, it had only 2 toilets to accommodate the entire plane and their was no sleeping bassinet as specified . . . . There was no inflight entertainment provided, you were to use your own phone of ipad (which wasnt advised prior) so we didnt go on prepared for that with anything downloaded.
We would choose another airline if to fly again for the price we paid . . . .
The one thing I do recommend you use if flying with kids is a product called Fly Legs Up and essentially its a ‘bed’ for the kiddies which keeps their legs up & they are able to lay down. We have used this on multiple flights with Noah with one of them being a 11hr flight to Hawaii, he slept on the night flight for 9hrs because of this amazing ‘Fly Legs Up’
And we used it again this flight for Noah to lay out, and London slept across my lap for her naps which is where she felt most comfortable and safe.
We tossed up between a villa or a resort, we loved the idea of a villa to be able to still swim and relax while the kids played/slept inside
However a resort was half of the cost with the same luxurious feel, it had security around the premises, was in the heart of Legian shopping & it included a buffet breakfast daily.
We stayed at the Akmani Legian which was absolutely beautiful & we highly recommend.
For 8nights stay we got a internal room at a sale price of only $550
An extremely cost effective resort for families
Baby Hire Items
We know the weather is extremely humid in bali with lots of walking to and from different areas. So we hunted down some hire items available in bali and came across – Bali Baby Hire who can be found via their website here – http://balibabyhire.com/
We chose to hire a double pram which was only $8 per day. They had the pram waiting at reception for us when we arrived to our resort & we left the pram at reception when checking out and they come to collect. They have amazing customer service, easy to communicate & very reliable
They also hire out other items such as toys, baby gates, rockers, highchairs, prams, cots & baby sitting services alongside day trip offers & more.
Our double pram made day walks/trips easy. We chose the double City Select which had thick durable tyres and a LARGE storage area underneath. London was able to have all of her day naps in the pram and soon loved her new wheels.
Safe to say we loved exploring the food that Bali had to offer we hunted down cafes along Legian & Seminyak and indulged whenever we could. Aircon a big TICK & a range of smoothy bowls you had us sold.
Our top picks would be
1. Crumb & Coaster – edgy, raw, industrial style cafe that had an amazing organic range of all styles of food including dairy free, gluten free & vegan. This cafe is a 2minute walk from The Akmani
2. Paper Boy – was located directly across from Crumb & Coaster and had a very similar vibe. Its fresh, bright & inviting & very quick service.
3. Makan – A very large style restaurant that had its entire building lit up with fairy lights at night – served incredible pasta & fine dining dishes
4. Strawberry Fields – A secluded little oasis covered in greenery and vines with the most delicious food we ate in Bali. If burgers are your thing, this is your place!
5. Ling Lings – If you want to try high quality Japanese & Korean Fusion try out Ling Lings in Seminyak, the customer service there was AMAZING & the food was quick to be served. Very edgy & unique place to eat
6. Kynd Community – is a 100% plant based restaurant that serves Breakfast Lunch & Dinner. This is defiantly a Treat Yo Self type of eating location
All of them we went back to more than once & recommend for service, quality, family friendly & DELICIOUS
Having little ones with us we wanted to ensure if any of us got sick we had resources to call on that were safe, trust worthy and recommended by aussies.
We dosed ourselves up on Pro-Biotics & Activated Charcoal before heading over and remained on that during our stay. The kids were completely fine eating the foods & drinking bottled water only, we didn’t shower London in case she licked the water or put her hands in her mouth instead we used bottled water to bath her in the basin. Noah showered and avoided putting his head anywhere near the water
Towards the end of our trip I did get a case of Bali Belly which peaked on the day we were due to fly out so I called a doctor to come to our resort room and get some medication to hopefully help me during our flight home. He administered Antibiotics, a anti-nausia shot in the leg and 2x lots of other medication for cramping and diarrhea/vomiting. Within 2hrs I started to feel better after having 3x bottles of electrolyte drinks & staying hydrated. He comes to your motel room & and we paid $130aud for his visit & all of the medications incl anti-biotics.
His name is Doctor Ari Ph: 08 123 954 567
There is also an option to have a vitamin IV drip if you have a case of Bali Belly, they come to your motel room administer the medication through a drip and youll be feeling better before its even finished. The costing can also be claimed on your health insurance
We used a driver to pick us up from the airport and drop us back, he also took us for day trips & his rate is extremely fair. They will drive you to your destination and wait for you to spend the day doing your activity and drive you back. We highly recommend you give Gus Ari a message on Instagram or Facebook he is super reliable and quick to get back to you.
We have multiple friends in Aus that recommended getting tattoos done in bali as they are so much faster at doing their pieces. We used Envious Ink which was such a smooth process, they were accurate with design & very clean.
Kid Friendly Activities
We opted to go on a day trip to Turtle Island which is a boat ride over to see the animals, you can then eat lunch there & when your done they will take you back over in your boat. This was great for the kids to do and a family friendly activity.
We visited the large water bomb park which was a massive hit for Noah & lots of smaller pools for babies to swim as well.
There is lots of other places to take the kids like the Zoo or the Beach or to ride elephants, there is a kids friendly shopping centre that have characters walking around & a lolly land. If your after more family orientated activities there is defiantly plenty to do.
We personally didn’t utilise the babysitter while in Bali this trip however we had one recommended to us that lots of Australian families use while on holidays there who is super friendly, reliable, cost efficient & absolutely loves the kids. Some families have even brought her over to Aus for a holiday, she is like family to them. You can contact her below if this is something you would be interested in.
